Newcastle United could look to add to their defensive ranks this summer with a new target emerging who could be on the market.
Newcastle are fairly strong at right-back but with Kieran Trippier 34-year-ols this year and Emil Krafth not of the standard that they will want to be reaching, they could make a move for a new addition very soon.
A new report from InterLive is claiming that Newcastle could look to Italy to find a new option who has not yet signed a contract renewal at his current club.
Newcastle target considering his future
With just over a year left on his current deal, Denzel Dumfries could be about to be moved on as Inter look to cash in on the defender before he is allowed to walk away on a free transfer.
Talks over a contract renewal have not gone well as of yet and questions have been raised about the Dutch international’s future as Newcastle are now monitoring his situation.
The Geordies had previously shown interest in the wing-back last year as well as before he joined Inter, though obviously nothing ever came of it and he stayed on with the Italian giants.
This summer could be different, however, if Dumfries is looking for a new challenge and would consider a move to the Premier League as Newcastle hope to get back into the European spots next year.
Dumfries could provide the Magpies with great experience
Newcastle’s lack of experience has really cost them this season at times both domestically and in the Champions League, and they simple must learn from their mistakes.
One thing they could now do is bring in some big name players who have played at that level consistently, and Dumfries certainly qualifies having played 52 games across both the Champions League and Europa League.
The ‘amazing‘ defender would also give Newcastle another attacking outlet down the right-hand side with Miguel Almiron really struggling after his purple patch last season.
It’s unclear at the moment what his price would be given the contract situation, but Newcastle could negotiate themselves a cut-price deal for a top player.
