27-year-old Tottenham player Ange Postecoglou loves is statistically underperforming even more than James Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur have seen a few of their players struggle to find the form they showed in the early stages of the season.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side still hold they keys to their Champions League destiny this season after their draw on Tuesday against West Ham.

It was a disappointing point in some aspects given Brennan Johnson provided Spurs with the lead just four minutes into the game.

The Welshman is a prime example of a Spurs player who is hitting form at the right time having provided nine goal contributions in his last 13 league appearances.

Johnson’s goal on Tuesday saw him latch on the end of a Timo Werner cross with the Welshman admitting the pair are forming a really strong bond.

However, there have been games recently where Spurs have stuttered and have lacked the cutting edge of players like James Maddison.

The Englishman’s form over recent months has seen Postecoglou withdraw him in the 68 minutes and the 70 minute over the last two games.

Postecoglou’s decision to replace the 27-year-old against the Hammers saw a lot of backlash from some in the media in the fallout from the game at the London Stadium.

But there may now be one player who is underperforming even more than Maddison at Spurs.

One player’s form has fallen off even more than Maddison’s

Tottenham made a stunning start to the season under Postecoglou and it saw Maddison pick up the Player of the Month award for August.

Nine of Maddison’s 12 goal contributions this season came in the 11 games prior to his injury picked up in November.

Since returning, the Englishman has really struggled to nail down any consistent form.

But it seems Tottenham’s concerns may also have to be focused on another player who is struggling to reach the levels he set for himself earlier in the term.

Yves Bissouma started the campaign looking like a player reborn after his torrid time last season under Antonio Conte.

Under Postecoglou, the Mali midfielder started the first eight games in the Premier League and looked to be a real mainstay in the side.

However, his red card against Luton Town was the start of his downfall in form with the midfielder having not looked right since.

In recent weeks, his form has even seen him omitted from the Mali national side, which is said to have sparked a furious reaction from the midfielder.

According to the WhoScored rating metrics, since 6 October, only Bissouma (-0.78) has underperformed more than Maddison (-0.68) in the Spurs side.

It is not a time for Spurs to be seeing their players struggle to find form with eight games remaining to land themselves a spot in the top four.

Postecoglou singled Bissouma out for praise in West Ham draw

Despite Bissouma’s struggles in the Spurs side of late, Postecoglou is continuing to stick with him in the starting XI.

The Australian had the chance to work with the 27-year-old at Hotspur Way over the international break after his national side snub.

Following the game on Tuesday night, Postecoglou actually singled Bissouma out for praise after what he saw from the midfielder.

“I thought tonight especially in our general play, our build-up and our organisation. I thought Biss was outstanding tonight and the back four handled.
