'Annoyed': Michail Antonio shares what Callum Wilson text him after Newcastle's amazing comeback vs West Ham

Newcastle United’s comeback win over West Ham will live long in the memory.

In many ways, it perhaps summed up the chaotic nature of Newcastle’s Premier League campaign thus far.

Eddie Howe’s side were dealt more injuries, with three players forced in the form of Tino Livramento, Miguel Almiron and Jamaal Lascelles.

Livramento’s problem was a rather freak occurrence and he’s now expected to miss around a month of action.

Lascelles, meanwhile, became the second central defender to suffer an ACL injury in successive games after Sven Botman’s blow.

Anthony Gordon was even sent off towards the end of the game but it was a game defined by Newcastle’s ability to fight through adversity, with Harvey Barnes scoring twice to seal a famous win.

Not only was it thrilling to watch but it was a vital three points in the race with the Hammers for European qualification.

After such a high stakes and dramatic game, Callum Wilson was always likely to message good friend Michail Antonio, of course.

The two previously conducted a podcast together and constantly poked fun at one another.

Now, the West Ham star has shared exactly what Wilson said.

Speaking on The Players Channel on the BBC with Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney, Antonio said: “The guy did message me after the game saying that your fans wanted to go whey in the 69th minute, hey?

“He kind of dropped me that message and I was like ahh, I said if the game ended 3-1 you wouldn’t be on my phone right now. And he said well it didn’t.

“Obviously he tried to pop up at the end of the game because Newcastle turned up at the end of the game but I couldn’t say much to him. I was a bit annoyed by the fact we lost the game and I just don’t feel like they deserve to finish above us, so no we can’t allow it and it’s not going to happen.”

Callum Wilson’s injury return date could be soon for Newcastle

On Friday, Howe spoke positively about Wilson’s eventual return from injury, saying the striker was set to “look good” when he does come back.

Quite how long he remains a Newcastle player beyond that, however, remains to be seen.

Last month, Fabrizio Romano suggested the striker faces an uncertain future at St James’ Park, so its feasible that he could be returning from injury to play his final few games for the club.
