Tottenham eye summer transfer for rapid defender as Eric Dier makes Spurs admission

Catch a round-up of the latest Tottenham news, including updates on summer transfer business, Eric Dier admission and Timo Werner.

Tottenham summer transfer interest

Tottenham have been linked with another defensive option ahead of the summer transfer window. Spurs have bolstered their backline in the past year, adding Radu Dragusin in January on top of Micky van de Ven the window prior.

The latter of which has been a consistent starter in the team and showing considerable pace in the backline. Another player being linked, which could rival that pace on display, is RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan.

According to Sky Germany, the 23-year-old is on the radar of Spurs ahead of a potential switch to the Premier League.

Eric Dier transfer admission

Tottenham loanee Eric Dier has admitted that he left the club later than he should have in recent months. The defender joined Bayern Munich on loan in the January transfer window and is set to join them permanently in the summer when his deal with Spurs comes to an end.

Opening up on the move, Dier told The Overlap: “It was definitely time for me [to leave Tottenham]. It was probably six months too late if we’re honest.

“I had a fantastic time at Tottenham, I left very amicably and I always hope I can do that with people just in my life in general. I had a very, very good relationship with the club the whole time I was there.”

Timo Werner verdict

Timo Werner has received a lot of praise for his loan stint so far at Tottenham, having impressed since the switch in January. The forward had struggled to get into the side at RB Leipzig, but Spurs offered the chance for regular football for the campaign.

There is also a permanent transfer clause involved that could see the former Chelsea man join for as little as £15million in the summer. Werner’s form has impressed, but his character off the pitch appears to be just as important.

Speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, Alasdair Gold explained what he has heard behind the scenes about the striker. “I’ve been speaking to a lot of people within the club about him, whether that’s, you know, his teammates, coaching staff, people just in various departments.

“They all say the same thing. Just what a really lovely down to earth guy is. There’s no ego there. He could be a guy that could be kind of ruined by that experience, but he’s not he’s just a really lovely, friendly, happy guy behind the scenes.”
