'He's a Duracell bunny': Michael Smith shares hilarious insight on 'non-stop' Sheffield Wednesday star

Sheffield Wednesday striker Michael Smith has shared some hilarious insight on one of his teammates after the draw vs Norwich City.

Smith was on the scoresheet as Sheffield Wednesday drew 2-2 with Norwich City on Tuesday night.

Danny Rohl inspired the comeback at half-time, making four changes and pummelling the Norwich City box with crosses and long throws.

After the game, Norwich boss David Wagner jokingly compared Rohl to Tony Pulis.

But unlike Pulis, Rohl is getting a tune out of these Sheffield Wednesday players, who refuse to give up.

Smith has come into the fold in recent weeks.

He was exiled by Rohl at the back end of 2023 but has since come back into the first-team picture, starting the last two games now and scoring his fourth Championship goal of the season against Norwich.

But Smith was perfect for the Norwich game, especially the second half performance.

The big striker is good in the air and physical in the duels, unsettling Norwich throughout the 90 and being well-deserving of his equalising goal in the 85th minute.

But there were others who arguably caught the eye more on what was another memorable Hillsborough evening.

Pol Valentin came off the bench and helped changed the game for Sheffield Wednesday, along with Callum Paterson.

Paterson came off the bench at half-time, making just his second appearance since returning from injury.

But he showed no signs of fatigue or a lack of match fitness.

He was up and down the left flank causing Norwich problems with his energy and sheer strength.

After the game, Smith spoke highly of his Scottish teammate, telling Football Heaven:

“He’s a Duracell bunny isn’t he. He’s got so much energy. I’ve just seen him drinking a can of Monster there at half 10 at night. He’s non stop, but that’s how he plays. He’s a bundle of energy and he’s a really good player to have on our side.”

Calum Paterson contract and future

Paterson, 29, is one of the few players under contract at Hillsborough beyond this summer.

He’s contracted to the club until the summer of 2025 and so next season, whether or not Sheffield Wednesday stay in the Championship, Paterson looks set to play a huge role.

He showed against Norwich why the fans always warm to him; he’s got the perfect attitude for a relegation battle, and not only is he a very physical player, but he’s someone who’s popped up with important goals and assists over the years.

His USP is his versatility; his ability to play just about anywhere on the pitch, making him the ideal impact player for Rohl when he needs a bit of energy injected into the game.

But after performances like his one against Norwich, the ‘Duracell bunny’ could be in line for a starting spot when Sheffield Wednesday host Stoke City on Saturday.
