'I don't get it': Anton Ferdinand baffled by what he's now hearing about Bukayo Saka

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has put together an outstanding squad that is currently challenging for the Premier League title and remains in contention for the Champions League.

The Gunners currently sit top of the table amid an incredibly competitive title race alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.

And on Tuesday, Arsenal played out a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, with the second leg taking place next week.

Gunners forward Bukayo Saka is once again playing a key role for his team in their pursuit of glory.

The 22-year-old has clocked up 40 appearances for Arsenal this season, registering 18 goals and 13 assists.

However, the debate over Saka’s workload continues. It’s becoming an increasingly common occurrence to see him go down in games, and stay down.

Indeed, the England international limped off the pitch in the recent draw with Manchester City, with Mikel Arteta citing fatigue as the reason he came off.

Saka missed England’s recently friendly games against Brazil and Belgium as he was carrying a knock.

However, Anton Ferdinand isn’t accepting the “narrative” about Saka’s tiredness.

What has Anton Ferdinand said about Arsenal star Bukayo Saka?

The former defender, speaking on Vibe with FIVE, says you don’t feel tired when you’re regularly winning for your team.

“Can I just say, this is the narrative, you know we’re talking about Narrative FC, ‘he’s tired, he’s tired’,” he said.

“Let me tell you something, right, every football player that’s played the game – you listening, Joel, from behind the camera?

“See, when you’re winning games and you’re going for the title, and you’re in these big games, and Arsenal are winning games by the way, you don’t feel tired, bro.

“No, you don’t feel tired when you’re winning games, you ask any player that’s played the game, when they’re winning back to back like Kappa, they don’t feel tired, fact.

“But all of a sudden now, Saka’s tired? I don’t get it!”

Obviously Ferdinand was a professional footballer so he’ll know the game better than just some random journalist, and it’s clear that Saka wants to keep playing as much as he can for a high-flying Arsenal side.

However, you can’t help but worry at the sheer amount of game time Saka is getting through, and how it’s now not uncommon to see him go down towards the end of matches.

At this stage of the season, every game’s pretty much like a cup final, so we’re likely to see him playing as long as he can for the rest of the campaign.

But next season, Arsenal really need to bring in someone who can cover for him and lessen his workload somewhat.
