Report: What Newcastle are now investigating at their training ground because of their injury crisis

Newcastle United are now looking at their training facilities as they try and solve the injury nightmare that has plagued their entire season.

Eddie Howe has had to contend with an unprecedented number of issues this season, which is still showing no signs of improving.

And if this was supposed to be the season when Howe and his side competed in Europe whilst also cementing their domestic position as a Champions League club, then they’ve been completely hamstrung.

To delineate the issue, right now Newcastle are missing Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope, Tino Livramento, Joelinton, Miguel Almiron, Joe Willock, Sven Botman – and that’s not even the entire list.

It’s an incredibly worrying situation, and it seems as if it’s passed the point in which these repeated issues can just be put down to bad luck or coincidence.

And to that description, The Athletic have now been detailing an internal investigation that has been taking place at Newcastle of late.

Internally Newcastle have admitted that they are ‘light years’ away from the top clubs in the league in terms of their facilities.

Newcastle have now begun to investigate their training pitch as injury crisis continues

According to the report, Newcastle have spent around £10m updating their training ground thus far – which is now seen as on par with lower-half Premier League sides.

But to get to the crux of their injury issues, Newcatle have begun to investigate the spring of their training pitch and whether it’s creating issues for players’ joints.

Interestingly, the information insists that Howe also oversaw something similar at Bournemouth in the past during an injury crisis.

Newcastle fans will be desperate for an answer, and will surely just want things to improve ahead of the new season.

Given their upturn in form, Howe’s side do have a very realistic chance of still finishing sixth this season, which would secure another campaign of European football.

But that will be dependent on the likes of Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes staying fit.

That wouldn’t necessarily be a big worry at most clubs right now, but Newcastle do seem to be in a pretty unique predicament.

All that being said, Newcastle are now being linked to a 14-assist Eredivisie player.
