25-year-old dropped, Pedersen returns: Predicted Sheffield Wednesday XI v Stoke - opinion

Sheffield Wednesday host Stoke City in the Championship on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday return to Hillsborough following their memorable 2-2 comeback draw vs Norwich City in midweek.

The Owls were poor in the first half but superb in the second.

Danny Rohl made a bold quadruple change at the break and watched on as his side scored twice against top-six hopefuls Norwich.

Callum Paterson shone against Norwich, though there were top individual performances across the pitch for Wednesday that night.

The Owls drew with Norwich despite having several key players sidelined.

Marvin Johnson, Ike Ugbo, Ian Poveda, and Di’Shon Bernard all missed out; Rohl says that all four are set to be assessed ahead of the game vs Stoke City.

Elsewhere, Juan Delgado remains sidelined, but he recently shared a picture of him in first-team training as he steps up his recovery for next season.

How will Danny Rohl line up vs Stoke City

Rohl changed to a back-five at half-time vs Norwich.

It’s a formation that seems to suit the Owls better when playing against better opposition.

Though with Stoke City sitting in 19th and just three points ahead of Sheffield Wednesday in 22nd, a back-four, and a more attacking set-up might be preferable.

Kristian Pedersen may well be pushing to displace the 25-year-old Akin Famewo at left-back, with the latter shaky against Norwich, but expect Michael Ihiekwe and Bambo Diaby to start in the middle.

Dominic Iorfa will surely start at right-back if Rohl plays a back-four, keeping the impressive Pol Valentin on the bench.

Expect Will Vaulks to return to the XI alongside Barry Bannan in midfield, with Vaulks impressive vs Norwich.

And Rohl will surely think of starting Paterson; despite his impressive Norwich performance though, he’s still working his way back to fitness, and may be best used as an impact player once again here.

Michael Smith should keep his spot up front after scoring against Norwich.
