Report: Newcastle United now want 'big' 26-year-old that Tottenham let go on a free back in 2019

It is no secret that Newcastle United will be after a goalkeeper in the summer as Eddie Howe looks to shake up his options between the sticks – as they look for cover for England goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Newcastle have already decided to let Loris Karius leave on a free transfer this summer, and doubts continue to surround the future of Martin Dubravka. With Pope returning, Dubravka could decide to exit.

Even Pope may be replaced. Newcastle are said to be keen on Arsenal man Aaron Ramsdale and a move for the England stopper would surely see Pope fall down the rankings. Ramsdale won’t join as a no.2.

Newcastle are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer

Middlesbrough goalkeeper Seny Dieng has been targeted, with the Toon needing £4m to sign the former QPR stopper. But, strangely, Newcastle are keen on another Middlesbrough goalkeeper in Tom Glover.

Glover, 26, came through at Tottenham. A regular for their U23 side, he went to his home country with Melbourne City on a free – where he clocked up over 100 games – earning a move back to England.

He joined Michael Carrick’s side Middlesbrough, and has impressed in his 20 games this term – Carrick describing him as “big”. That form has attracted the interest of a number of clubs in the United Kingdom.

Who is rivalling Newcastle to sign Middlesbrough’s Tom Glover…

The report fromFTBL claims that Old Firm duo Celtic and Rangers, as well as Newcastle, are interested in signing Glover. A move to Denmark with Copenhagen could arise, as Celtic looking to replace Joe Hart.

Glover penned a contract at Middlesbrough until the summer of 2027, and it is unclear how much the interested quartet would have to pay for Glover. There is an issue though, with an injury hampering him.

The goalkeeper broke into Boro’s first team with Dieng injured, but a fractured finger has seen Dieng come back into the side. That must be sorted if he is to join a new club, like Newcastle or the Old Firm.
