‘Good news’: Mauricio Pochettino says injured £50m Chelsea man actually has a chance of playing on Monday

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has now stated that there is actually some good news when it comes to injuries for his club right now.

He said in his pre-match press conference that one player is close to returning, and has a chance of being involved in the squad on Monday.

Injuries have plagued the Blues all season long, and this week has been no different as some new names have been added to the list.

Axel Disasi added to injury list

Axel Disasi, who has been available all season so far, is likely to miss his first game since November after being added to the list of injured names.

Enzo Fernandez was also mentioned as a player struggling since the last game, leaving Pochettino the job of picking up the pieces from his squad again.

However, it does look as if he may be about to welcome one key player back, after stating that Ben Chilwell is approaching his return to the squad.

Pochettino says Ben Chilwell is nearly back

He said: “Not only him, we miss other players. We miss the competition. Chilly is training, partial training and see if he can be involved in the squad on Monday. It’s good news. But he hasn’t played too much this season.”

The vice-captain has not been available a lot this season, and recently the role has been occupied by Marc Cucurella.

While the Spaniard has performed pretty well on occasion, it is clear that the role could be upgraded, and a fully fit Chilwell would certainly achieve that.

However, his ongoing injury problems will certainly be something that the club will have taken notice of, and look to avoid aggravating in upcoming weeks.
