'Reality check...': Sky Sports pundit gives score prediction for Sheffield Wednesday v Stoke City

Sheffield Wednesday welcome Stoke City in the Championship this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday go into yet another crucial Championship clash under Danny Rohl, welcoming fellow strugglers Stoke City to Hillsborough.

Just three points separate the two teams ahead of the weekend.

But Stoke City currently sit in 19th place of the table and the Owls in 22nd, so there’s everything to play for in this relegation six-pointer.

Sheffield Wednesday have lost just one of their last four now, following a 2-2 comeback draw vs Norwich City on Tuesday night and a 2-0 win at QPR last weekend.

But Rohl’s men have also won just one of their last six in the Championship.

The March international break came at a bad time for the Owls who had won five in seven before the break.

Stoke City have won one of their last five now, losing 3-0 away at Swansea City in midweek.

Last time Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City met, Anthony Musaba came off the bench to net an injury time winner in a 1-0 win.

And speaking on the Sky Sports Championship Predictions podcast ahead of the weekend, former Wednesday midfielder David Prutton gave his thoughts and score prediction, saying:

“Great win against QPR. Awful for quite a spell against Norwich; the fact that they were down 2-0, but to comeback and get something from the game… Watching Stoke last night [vs Swansea City], he wasn’t happy, was he? Steven Schumacher. But broadly good work before then. That was a real reality check, and two huge football clubs, very much scratching around at the wrong end of this division.”

Prutton predicted a 1-1 draw between Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City.

Danny Rohl’s biggest game so far

There’s a case to say that each of the last four games of the season will be the biggest of Rohl’s tenure so far, and the biggest of his career.

After Stoke, the Owls head to Blackburn Rovers, before hosting West Brom and finishing the season at Sunderland.

So this Stoke City game, at home and against weaker opposition, feels like the most winnable one for Wednesday, and so a win is an absolute must.

And given the result in the reverse fixture and the second half performance against Norwich, Wednesday fans should be quietly optimistic ahead of this one.

Sheffield Wednesday have a knack of getting results against teams around them this season but Stoke are in the same position; badly needing a win against lower opposition.

Kick off is at 3pm on Saturday.
