Newcastle United roared back into form on Saturday afternoon.
While Eddie Howe’s side are unbeaten since the international break, the performance at Fulham was hardly convincing.
Neither was the dramatic win over West Ham, as thrilling as it was. Newcastle largely dominated against Everton in between those games but were ultimately undone by a frustrating defensive mistake.
However, things proved very differently indeed at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Indeed, Newcastle ran out 4-0 winners against a Champions League-chasing Tottenham side.
While Spurs had some early chances, quick-fire goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon had them in dreamland before the break.
Isak would add his second and the team’s third after the interval before Fabian Schar headed in a late fourth to propel Newcastle into the Premier League‘s top six, albeit potentially only briefly.
As you can imagine, club legend Alan Shearer was delighted.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Shearer wrote: “The Toon have dismantled Ange Ball today!!!! Better in every single position. Spurs all over the place.”

That was some performance.
Newcastle could have scored more too, with Elliot Anderson going close and even Emil Krafth hitting the post in the second half.
Despite so many injuries, Howe’s side were at their proactive best. In many ways, it was as controlled a performance as the famous 6-1 victory over Spurs.
This team are not to be toyed with. Consistency may be an issue but very rarely do they not compete and, clearly, they have the quality to hurt anyone on their day.
That’s now Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Paris Saint-Germain and both Manchester clubs beaten at St James’ this season.
Having also picked up a rare clean sheet too and it all makes for a fantastic day for Newcastle.
Shearer is right. They dismantled Tottenham.
