'So gifted': Anthony Gordon convinced Newcastle teammate can be one of the best players in the world

Newcastle United are in fine form.

While they returned from the international break in thrilling fashion by beating West Ham at St James’ Park, it was hardly the most convincing of defensive displays.

They then drew with Everton in frustrating fashion before edging past Fulham in a performance so bad that Eddie Howe had to hold harsh words with his players.

That all changed on Saturday, however.

Newcastle were back at perhaps their best level when they thrashed Tottenham in the Premier League.

Though Spurs did have some early chances, Howe’s side battered the Champions League-chasing outfit and propelled themselves into the top six, albeit maybe only briefly.

Anthony Gordon was fantastic throughout, scoring once and assisting twice to continue his fine record against the so-called ‘Big Six’.

Still, as good as the winger was, he was at pains to hail a teammate after the game.

Anthony Gordon says Alexander Isak can be one of the best players in the world

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Gordon predicted that Alexander Isak could go on to become one of the very best players the world has to offer.

The Sweden international bagged a brace in the 4-0 victory to take his tally for the season up to 19 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.

“You can see on the pitch he is so, so gifted,” he said.

“He can become one of the best players in the world, and when fit he is so good to play with. For the assist I just passed him the ball and then he sat a few players down, it was all him. What a player and more importantly what a person.”

Eddie Howe has already predicted incredible things from Alexander Isak

Those at Newcastle clearly rate Isak very highly indeed.

Not only does Howe reportedly want to build around the striker for years to come, he’s previously said that the super Swede striker will go on to “incredible things”.

Keeping him consistently fit has proven an issue but Isak is proving there are fewer better forwards than him around at the moment.

If he can shake off injury issues, the sky really is the limit for him and Newcastle.
