Report: Arsenal have now been given hope they can win race to sign 25-year-old this summer; bid expected

Arsenal have now been given hope that they can win the race to sign one transfer target this summer, with his asking price taking a number of admirers out of the equation.

The Gunners do not have a lot of work to do this summer. Mikel Arteta‘s men have definitely improved this year. And this season could yet end with a Premier League title.

Of course, there may be a couple of surprises. Few would have imagined that one of Arteta’s marquee additions last year would be another goalkeeper.

So some of the current stars may be looking over their shoulders, including Kai Havertz.

Havertz has been exceptional in recent months. His form has led to a debate over whether Arsenal do need to sign another striker after all.

However, it would appear that Arsenal do indeed intend to try and sign another goalscorer.

Arsenal given hope of winning race to sign Viktor Gyökeres

According to a report from Give Me Sport, the Gunners are expected to bid for Viktor Gyokeres following his outstanding campaign with Sporting.

In fact, the report claims that Arsenal have now been given hope that they can win the race for Gyokeres. While they do not want to trigger his £85 million release clause, Sporting’s asking price has taken a lot of teams out of the running.

It was reported this week that Gyokeres wants to join Arsenal.

Gunners may hope Sporting feel this summer is perfect time to sell

Sporting would surely love to keep him. But if they get any sense that he is going to struggle to replicate this form in the future, then it may make it the right time to sell. And that could open the door to a compromise.

The 25-year-old has been one of the leading scorers in Europe this season. He is two clear of Erling Haaland for league goals.

And Arsenal fans have reason to be extremely excited if Edu does give the green light to a big-money move.

The current hierarchy have got little wrong in the market. And the way moves for the likes of Jorginho and Kai Havertz have come from nowhere and proved to be inspired shows that the vision Edu and Mikel Arteta have for Arsenal can be trusted.

It would certainly be a real statement if they could now win the race for Gyokeres.
