‘More scrutiny’: Jamie Carragher now thinks Everton have a ‘bigger worry’ than their PSR issues

Everton are back in action again tomorrow night, travelling to Chelsea in a match set to be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

It promises to be an enthralling affair, between two sides who create plenty but seemingly always lack the quality to finish their chances.

So, one might expect a low-scoring affair littered with profligacy, but with the Toffees, it’s impossible to predict.

Well, Jamie Carragher tried to, whilst also offering a glimpse into what Sky Sports’ coverage might consist of tomorrow night.

Speaking to Tony Scott at Aintree Races just yesterday, the Liverpool ECHO journalist asked him everything from Everton to his tips for the Grand National.

However, more interesting for us was the former, which he weighed in on briefly.

Providing a prediction for tomorrow night’s Chelsea game, he also revealed that he would be combing over the takeover with more precision on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

He noted: ‘I do actually, yeah [worry about the future of Everton]. I’ll probably speak about this on Monday, give you a little insight but, listen I know the points thing has caused uproar. I get all that, I can get both sides.

‘But for me, I’ve always said that most of that falls on Everton and the way they’ve been run for the last few years.

‘But I do think what’s going on off the pitch in terms of ownership is actually bigger and more important and it needs more focus on it than actually the Premier League and the rules and the points deductions because that’s about this season.

‘New owners coming in is about probably the next five to ten years so I think that’s a bigger worry for Everton and should be getting more scrutiny.’

Everton’s Monday Night Football chat hinted at

Well, if we learned anything from this snippet it’s that Monday Night Football will actually consist of some talk of the wider issues at Everton, at last!

In the weeks gone by throughout the term, this record-breaking show, which has admittedly shone this season for the calibre of guests it keeps attracting, has come under fire from fans regarding the analysis of topics unrelated to the game being shown on the particular night.

However, it is hard to get a relevant guest who can also carry a segment on their own, in the way that Jesse Marsch did not too long ago, for example, when the Toffees hosted Crystal Palace

But, it has also been frustrating to see such a pertinent issue like the takeover at the hands of 777 Partners and the PSR controversy ignored, with Sky Sports’ lack of opinionated coverage on the matter rather telling.

Fortunately, Carragher has seemingly spilt that tomorrow night will certainly involve some chat on that topic, which we can look forward to watching and hopefully scrutinising further.
