Leicester City summer transfer plans become clear as 'top spy' sent on scouting mission - Alan Nixon

Leicester City have started to make plans for the summer transfer window.

Leicester remain well-placed to make an instant return back to the Premier League, despite a worrying drop-off in form.

Enzo Maresca‘s side sit in the automatic promotion spots, one point adrift of league leaders Ipswich Town with a game in hand. They need three wins from four to mathematically secure a top-two finish.

With that said, behind-the-scenes transfer plans are already being drawn up ahead of a potential top-flight campaign.

One report has claimed that a scouting mission is underway.

As per journalist Alan Nixon, Leicester have sent former player turned scout Sean St Ledger on a scouting mission to Brazil.

Despite the club’s ongoing Profit and Sustainability saga, they are keen to improve Maresca’s squad after a run of six defeats in 10 games.

St Ledger, who is considered a ‘top spy’, is keeping tabs on two unnamed targets who they hope can be secured for ‘bargain’ transfer fees.

Though, it seems a lot will depend on what division City end up in, as finances are expected to be restricted more so if they remain in the Championship.

What areas do Leicester City need to strengthen this summer?

Well, it’s become pretty apparent that a striker may be needed having missed a bucket load of chances in recent weeks.

Jamie Vardy turned 37 in Janaury and could leave the club this summer with his contract set to expire, so he will need to be replaced.

Elsewhere, the midfield is definitely an area that needs strengthening and City did try to bring in Stefano Sensi during the winter, though, that deal failed to materialise.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall looks pretty likely to depart as his sale would help to balance the books, so perhaps an attacking midfielder can be added to their list of targets, too.

At full-back, Leicester are probably fine, though, they could do with a pacier centre-back, as in the Premier League, Jannik Vestergaard could be exploited if he’s not partnered next to someone with recovery speed.

Aside from that, they probably won’t have much cash to spend on other positions, so they are the priorities this summer.
