Report: What Eddie Howe did at SJP after every Newcastle fan had left following win over Tottenham

Eddie Howe once again showcased just how good of a manager he is on Saturday as Newcastle United battered Tottenham Hotspur 4-0.

The Magpies blew Spurs away for the second year in a row, as Toon fans inside St James’ Park sang ‘Tottenham Hotspur, it’s happened again’.

And it did happen again. Last year, Newcastle won 6-1 thanks to an opening 21 minutes that defied belief. 2024 saw Newcastle welcome a very different Tottenham team to Tyneside, but the result was the same.

Newcastle now look more likely to qualify for Europe after beating Tottenham

Even though it was an incredibly depleted Toon side, Eddie Howe was able to orchestrate a famous win that could go a long way towards the Magpies qualifying for Europe.

Newcastle now have six games remaining, and Europa League football suddenly looks a lot more likely than it did a few weeks ago.

Pessimism has been replaced by optimism, as Toon fans celebrated another famous St James’ Park win under Howe.

But while fans celebrated and players relaxed, the work did not stop for Eddie Howe.

What Eddie Howe did once the Newcastle fans left St James’ Park on Saturday

With Newcastle competing in the early kickoff and Tyneside draped in sunshine, fans exited St James’ Park and headed into the town with a smile on their face and three points in the bag.

But there was no time for Howe to sit back and smell the roses, with The Athletic providing details of what the manager did once St James’ Park was empty.

According to The Athletic, Howe went to his office inside the ground and immediately watched back Newcastle’s win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle owners have a ‘gem’ in Howe

That kind of mentality is why Newcastle have got someone special in Howe. That is certainly how the owners feel, with the likes of Amanda Staveley believing that Howe is a ‘gem’ that they simply must not get rid of.

That is despite recent murmurs from outside that Howe had taken Newcastle as far as he could. Pundits wanted a bigger name to arrive, with Richard Keys talking up Jose Mourinho.

But Howe proved once again on Saturday that he truly is a tactical genius, as his game plan led to Newcastle dismantling a Tottenham side that caused them so many problems in the reverse fixture.

This time Howe was prepared, and his man-to-man tactic resulted in a famous 4-0 win.

While it was a very tough winter for Newcastle and Howe, things are suddenly looking brighter. The Magpies are continuing to persevere despite all of their injuries, while Howe is finding ways to win as his side aim to end a very tough season in emphatic style.
