‘For me’: Mauricio Pochettino shares if he will leave Chelsea if they don’t qualify for Europe this season

Mauricio Pochettino has now shared what he is planning to do if Chelsea do not qualify for Europe this season.

He told The Mirror that the Blues missing out on any form of continental football would actually be close to what he expected when joining the club.

Pochettino is reportedly under pressure in his role as Chelsea manager, with it being claimed that the club are looking at a number of other candidates already.

Pochettino under pressure

This is likely due to the club retaining their status up to now as a mid-table club, and not currently in the running for a place in Europe next season.

They seem to have blown a massive chance to tighten their grip on this, with them dropping four points in a week to Burnley and Sheffield United despite leading both games.

With the future of Pochettino seemingly up in the air at this stage, the Argentine has stated that he would not walk away from the club if they did not finish in the European places.

He said: “Of course, because when I arrived here, we already know that we are not going to compete in Europe.

“And I said the project and I said the idea to come here and to build, you know, a squad to be competitive and to try to reach this level. So yes, that is no problem for me.”

Chelsea have yet another chance to crank the pressure on the sides above them tonight when they take on relegation-threatened Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Supporters have struggled to get onside with the boss since he arrived, with matchgoing fans making their feelings clear on a number of occasions.

However, there is still a very realistic chance of the Blues qualifying for Europe for next season, and therefore keeping them in the conversation for a number of top players when the transfer window opens again this summer.
