£30m midfielder and Kasey McAteer react as Leicester City man earns Championship award last night

Mads Hermansen has just been being named in the Championship Team of the Season.

Enzo Maresca‘s side for much of the season have been the league leaders and still they remain just a point adrift of the summit with a game in hand.

It’s been widely suggested that Leicester‘s squad may be the best in Championship history, so with that said, it’s no surprise to see two players named in the team of the season.

Hermansen attended the award ceremony in London yesterday and has posted on Instagram with the trophy.

Hermansen arrived from Danish outfit Brondby IF last summer, completing a £6m switch to the East Midlands.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper has enjoyed a marvellous debut campaign and has looked every inch of a Premier League player.

He’s been City’s deep-lying playmaker, at times, displaying an impressive nature to receive the ball under pressure.

So, it is indeed no surprise to see him awarded such a prestigious honour and he was delighted with the recognition, saying on Instagram: “So happy to be named for the Championship Team Of The Season. Now focus on the most important thing, getting the promotion secured. Thanks to all at @lcfc for the support.”

Foxes teammate McAteer commented: “Well deserved mate.”

As did his compatriot, Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, who sent two celebratory emojis. The £30m-rated star has been linked with Leicester in the past, though, given the club’s current Profit and Sustainability saga, it seems that deal is a long way off materialising.

Mads Hermansen sets sight on Championship medal

Whilst Hermansen was clearly happy to pick up the award last night, he was quick to note that the most important thing is securing promotion to the Premier League.

Leicester need three wins from their remaining four games to mathematically finish inside the automatic promotion sports.

With a home clash against West Bromwich Albion fast approaching, he and his teammates must react to the disappointing 1-0 defeat at Plymouth Argyle last week.

Maresca must address his side’s profligate nature and drop Patson Daka for Kelechi Iheanacho or Tom Cannon.

Jamie Vardy must be managed accordingly, given he turned 37 in January.
