'Run ragged': Alan Shearer names 3 Crystal Palace players who were just 'magnificent' v Liverpool

Crystal Palace earned the headlines of matchweek 33 in the Premier League as Oliver Glasner’s side beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield, seeing three players earn a host of praise from Alan Shearer.

Not many would have anticipated that Oliver Glasner’s first Premier League away win in charge of Crystal Palace would come at Anfield however, the Austrian defied the odds to make it happen.

Sunday was a day to remember for the Eagles, as Eberechi Eze’s first-half goal was enough to see Palace take three points back to South London in what was an immaculate display all around.

Joachim Andersen was selected by Jamie Carragher as the Sky Sports’ man of the match for his defensive efforts, with the goalkeeper, midfield and attack also playing out of their skin to ensure the victory.

While it would be difficult to pinpoint a star performer from the fixture, pundit Alan Shearer singled out three members of Glasner’s squad who made a significant difference at Anfield.

Speaking in reaction to the result on BBC Match of the Day, Shearer was full of praise for Palace’s attacking trio of Eze, Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta, who worked in an exemplary manner to cause the Reds all kinds of problems.

“They were brilliant in every department, particularly the front three, I thought Eze, Olise and Mateta.”

“Not very often have we said this season that Liverpool’s back four had been run ragged and they were particularly in the first half.”

“These three were magnificent, everything they did in that first half.”

It was the first time that Glasner was able to play with Olise from the start, and the Frenchman did not disappoint, combining well with Eze and Mateta to make it a difficult afternoon for the host’s back line.

The front three showed how well they can work together under Oliver Glasner

Combining Mateta’s strength and energy with the skill of Eze and Olise worked well for Palace, who had plenty of chances to score more than one goal at Anfield.

The striker was centimetres away from netting his third goal in his previous four fixtures for Palace, with a superb piece of defending from Andy Robertson denying the Eagles the chance to inflict more pain on Liverpool in the first half.

While the defence remained strong and the midfield organised, Shearer’s praise of the attack was earned given that the perseverance of the trio made the difference to give Glasner’s side the three points to take home to South London.
