Three Brazilian players Leicester City should target this summer who won't break the bank - opinion

Here are three Brazilian players Leicester City should target in the summer transfer window.

Last week, a report emerged suggesting Leicester scout Sean St Ledger was in Brazil eyeing two unnamed targets.

With City’s current Financial Fair Play issues, The Foxes will need to operate shrewdly in the transfer market.

The Brazilian league has always produced talented players that can usually be signed for relatively low fees, in comparison to stars in Europe.

With that said, Leicester City News has picked out three players in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A the club should target who won’t break the bank.

Mauricio – Internacional

An attacking midfielder by trade, Maurcio has been producing some impressive numbers over the last few years.

The 2001-born playmaker netted 11 times whilst laying on as many assists during the 2023 season, which came to an end in December.

Mauricio has been capped seven times by Brazil’s under-23 side and has a Transfermarkt value of £10.2m, which is probably a fee City would be able to outlay.

He’s also left-footed, which adds another different type of profile to Enzo Maresca‘s squad.

John Kennedy – Fluminense

John Kennedy, a 2002-born centre-forward, has a Transfermarkt value of £5.1m, which is extraordinary given he netted 17 goals whilst providing five assists last term.

The six-cap Brazil under-23 international can play as a number-nine, second-striker and off both wings, so he would be a versatile option for Maresca and his chiefs.

Kennedy has scored twice in three starts so far this season and will likely be snapped up by leading European clubs if he replicates similar numbers for the remainder.

Jamie Vardy‘s contract expires this summer, so City will likely be in the market for a striker.

Alexsander – Fluminense

Another Fluminense star whom Leicester should target is Alexsander, a defensive midfielder who can also operate at left-back.

The 20-year-old was a fixture of Fluminense’s side last term, making 35 appearances across all competitions, helping them to achieve a seventh-placed finish.

A natural left-footer, Alexsander is composed on the ball and enjoys driving his side forward, using his acceleration and quick feet.

With a Transfermarkt of £6.8m, he’s certainly an attainable target for the East Midlands outfit.
