Tottenham Hotspur-bound wonderkid admits ‘nasty’ injury over the weekend

Tottenham Hotspur have a real talent arriving this summer but will hope to see him arrive without carrying any injury problems.

The January transfer window had only just closed when Tottenham made another move.

Not content with just adding Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin in January, Tottenham decided to tee up a first summer signing too.

Spurs pounced to land Lucas Bergvall from Djurgarden, beating Barcelona to the signing of the teenage sensation.

There is plenty of excitement around Bergvall already and he has been compared to Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong in terms of his playing style.

That is quite the prospect for Tottenham supporters but we have to remember that Bergvall is still only 18.

Bergvall is currently playing for Djurgarden in the Allsvenskan and Tottenham will be keeping very close tabs on his progress.

Lucas Bergvall injury

The teenager started for Djurgarden as they beat IK Sirius 2-0 on Sunday but he did pick up a rather unfortunate injury.

Let’s just say that Bergvall took a blow to the area where no man wants an injury.

Boss Thomas Lagerlof has now offered an update, admitting to Fotbollskanalen that Bergvall was ‘in pain’ after his blow but it isn’t a major problem.

Djurgarden wanted to see new signing Tokmac Nguen off the bench and Bergvall was withdrawn as Djurgarden look to rotate their squad.

It sounds like there is nothing for Tottenham to worry about here, but Spurs will be checking in on Bergvall just to make sure he is okay.

“He was in pain. He got hit in a place where it’s not so nice to get it. But it wasn’t a problem. It was more that Deniz (Hümmet) looked a bit fitter, Lucas has played a lot and we wanted to bring in Tokmac (Nguen). We get to spread out the playing time. We have five games to look forward to in two weeks starting on Sunday. We need all players to contribute,” said Lagerlof.

Bergvall on his injury

Bergvall has in fact spoken to Fotbollskanalen too, offering his own information about the injury.

The Spurs-bound talent noted that his injury was ‘nasty’ and he felt ‘very sick’ straight after it.

Bergvall admitted that the incident was just an accident having collided with IK Sirius winger Joakim Persson and there was ‘nothing ugly’ about it.

“I got pain in the “private parts”. On a corner. It was nasty. It hurt. But it was over quickly. It’s calm, but I wasn’t feeling well. I felt very sick. Yes, it was an accident. It was nothing ugly. Me and (Joakim) Persson collided,” he added.

Bergvall can expect a very physical welcome to the Premier League whenever he makes his Tottenham debut, but will hopefully suffer fewer of these ‘private part’ injuries.

The teenager will be looking to put the incident behind him and make a big impact in this weekend’s derby against AIK.

This is a huge game for Djurgarden, who have enjoyed a strong start to the new Allsvenskan season with two wins and one draw in three games.

Tottenham fans will be tracking Bergvall’s progress closely and will be cheering him for a derby victory, especially with no Spurs action this coming weekend.
