'Brilliant': Alan Shearer says £20m Tottenham target 'caused havoc' at the weekend

Alan Shearer has now been complimenting a player who has been regularly linked with a move to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.

It looks as if it will be a big summer for Spurs, who need to make a lot of progress to help Ange Postecoglou fight for trophies.

The Tottenham manager has himself set that as the barometer of success, saying a top four finish won’t suffice.

And in truth, it doesn’t seem as if Spurs will reach that level this season anyway, unless things dramatically improve.

Tottenham are far from being in a crisis, but the last few months have delineated how important this summer will be, and Postecoglou seems to know it.

Fortunately, Spurs are thought to be in a strong financial position thanks to the excellent work of Daniel Levy.

And should the club achieve a Champions League finish, one way or another, things could get exciting.

And with that in mind, perhaps the club could rekindle their interest in Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

Alan Shearer thought Tottenham target Eberechi Eze caused Liverpool nightmares

Eberechi Eze was often linked with Spurs last summer and in January, a player who could thrive in this new era.

It’s hard to imagine a player better suited to Postecoglou’s football, a versatile profile with so much flair.

That being said, Alan Shearer included the Crystal Palace maverick in his ‘Team of the Week’ following his winning-goal at Anfield.

Shearer wrote: “Liverpool didn’t know how to stop him. Brilliant composure for his goal and he caused havoc for their backline throughout the match.”

Of course, Eze would probably cost at least triple the £20m Palace paid to sign him from Queens Park Rangers back in 2020.

And it seems that Palace may have repeated that success when signing Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers in January too, another player who was on Spurs’ radar.

Tottenham haven’t currently given too much away in terms of who they will target this summer, but it certainly seems as if there’s a few players at Palace, including Marc Guehi, who could improve their side.

That being said, Gary Neville earlier admitted that he had been ‘mesmerised’ by two Tottenham players this season.
