‘I’m a Gunner’: Midfielder Arsenal nearly signed now says he actually supports the club

Arsenal have plenty of stories around players they almost signed.

The Gunners have stories about the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe almost joining the club, but there are also some smaller names who would have joined Arsenal in a different world.

One player who nearly joined the Gunners a few years ago is USA international midfielder, Cole Bassett.

The Colorado Rapids star actually did a week trial at Arsenal with a view to signing permanently for the club. However, that one didn’t go ahead.

It’s been a little while now since Bassett was on trial at Arsenal, but now, speaking to Goal on TikTok, the midfielder has stated that he’s actually an Arsenal fan.

Cole Bassett supports Arsenal

The USA international spoke about Arsenal when taking part in a TikTok challenge.

“Saliba or Militao. This is a hard one,” Bassett was asked.

“I’m going to go with Saliba, I’m Arsenal, I’m a Gunner,” Bassett said.

Cole Bassett could come to Europe

The ship has more than likely sailed on Bassett’s Arsenal dream, but perhaps a move to Europe could beckon.

The 22-year-old has already had two loan spells in the Eredivisie during the MLS off-season, and it’s clear that he does want to move across the pond to take his game up a notch.

The midfielder has been one of the better young players in MLS for quite some time now, and while he’s not likely to get a move to a club like Arsenal, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if he did end up in England at some point either at a Championship or lower Premier League club.

Who knows? At the age of just 22, perhaps in a few years’ time he could catch Arsenal’s eye once again. After all, he did impress enough a few years ago to earn a trial with the Gunners.
