Leicester ace has been quietly impressing on loan, he could be ready for Enzo Maresca's first team - opinion

Leicester City have a number of players on loan and one has enjoyed a really productive season.

The East Midlanders have a rich history of producing talent from their academy, namely the likes of Gary Lineker and Emile Heskey.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Kasey McAteer and Ben Nelson are the latest examples, all of whom departed the club on loan at some stage to further their development away from King Power Stadium.

Dewsbury-Hall’s loan spells at Blackpool and Luton Town really polished areas of his game, whilst McAteer and Nelson also benefited from experience in the lower leagues.

The Foxes appear to have another academy star ready to make the grade next season, as he’s set to return to Seagrave following a promotion-winning campaign.

Lewis Brunt, who joined Leicester from Aston Villa’s under-21 set-up in 2021, was shipped out on loan to Mansfield Town at the start of the season.

Having only made four senior appearances for City, Brunt felt it was necessary to gain experience elsewhere and his decision to do so has certainly paid off.

The 23-year-old defender has been a fixture of Mansfield’s starting line-up, helping the League Two outfit secure automatic promotion. Here are his impressive statistics, as per Sofasore.

  • 34 appearances
  • 3 Team of the Weeks
  • 11 clean sheets
  • 4.4 balls recovered per game
  • 81% accurate passes
  • 2 goals
  • 1 assist

Lewis Brunt could be ready to join Enzo Maresca’s squad

Brunt may well be ready to join Enzo Maresca‘s first team next season, perhaps as a squad player, initially.

With Leicester’s current Profit and Sustainability saga, they aren’t expected to do a lot of business in the summer so they should utilise their academy.

Maresca has shown he’s willing to promote players from the development squad and Brunt will be hopeful of following in a similar path to Nelson, who has flourished under the Italian head coach this term.

The England youth international was on loan at League Two sides Rochdale and Doncaster Rovers last term.

Brunt is on a similar trajectory and if he can impress in pre-season, there’s no reason why he can’t force his way into Maresca’s plans.

A big summer awaits the former Villa man.
