Report: Striker predicted to join Man United now demanding £165,000-a-week more than Rasmus Hojlund earns

One striker has been tipped to join Manchester United this summer – although his wage demands could potentially cause problems.

Goalscoring has been a major issue for the Red Devils this season – to say the least.

Manchester United have only scored 47 goals in 32 Premier League appearances this season – one more than Luton Town, who sit 18th.

Furthermore, only Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes have netted double figures for goals in the Premier League this term with 13 and 12 strikes respectively.

Therefore, a new striker certainly wouldn’t go amiss at Manchester United – although the forward in question is now demanding a significant salary, amid reports…

Manchester United discover Ivan Toney wage demands

Well, it was actually David Ornstein – one of the most reliable journalists around – who predicted Ivan Toney to join Manchester United this summer, after being asked by a supporter.

The England international scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season – only bettered by Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

Therefore, Toney would be a fine addition at Old Trafford, although his wage demands could have some other players knocking on Erik ten Hag’s door – if the Dutchman stays, that is, amid doubts over his future.

A story by The Sun reveals that Brentford’s No.17 is hoping to earn £250,000-a-week at his next club.

That is £165,000-a-week more than Hojlund’s salary of £85,000-a-week, so the impressive Denmark international is one player who would surely be asking questions if Toney’s demands were granted.

Culture is needed at Old Trafford

While Manchester United could probably justify spending £250,000-a-week on a striker like Toney, it would send out the wrong message at a time where a strong culture is desperately needed.

The Red Devils need to sign more young players who are hungry and eager to prove themselves to the world – like Hojlund – instead of signing those who view Old Trafford as the end goal, and take their foot off the gas after arriving.

Toney – aged 28 and supposedly demanding more money than even Fernandes earns – does not fit into that category, and bringing him to Manchester United on money like that may cause more problems that it solves.

Having said that, be sure to keep an eye on this situation – especially after a journalist as reliable as Ornstein predicted the Brentford talisman to join Manchester United.
