Mikel Arteta could add defender Sir Alex Ferguson called a ‘warrior’ to Arsenal’s coaching staff - journalist

It now seems as if Mikel Arteta could be lining up a former Manchester United player to join his Arsenal coaching staff next season.

Despite all of the success Arsenal are enjoying this campaign, it seems both Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar will oversee considerable change in the summer.

Firstly with the playing staff, it’s thought that several players could leave, perhaps even the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Thomas Partey and Aaron Ramsdale.

Three players who have all been crucial in different moments for the Arsenal boss, but now aren’t relied upon as a starter.

Of course, there’s then the players who could arrive in their place, with it being recently reported that Kai Havertz’s form has calmed the need to spend big on a new striker.

Perhaps that could mean that interest in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson is revived, a player seen as a longer-term project.

That being said, it seems as if Arsenal could also make changes to their coaching staff, a real summer of progression.

At least, that’s what journalist Leandro Alves has now reported over on X.

Arsenal could add former Man United man Gabriel Heinze to Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff

It’s long been thought that Mikel Arteta’s second hand man, Alfie Stuivenberg, could be on the cusp of leaving to become a manager himself.

And that perhaps explains why the Arsenal boss has now met with Gabriel Heinze recently.

Alves reported on X today that Arteta and Heinze recently watched a youth match in Madrid together.

And although Heinze has an opportunity with San Lorenzo, there’s a possibility he could join Arteta’s team, given he is currently in London.

Alves explained: “Arteta and Heinze recently shared a youth match in Madrid.

“We will see if the Gringo’s possibility in San Lorenzo prospers or if Arsenal ends up materialising.

“Today Gabriel is in London.”

Of course, since finishing his playing career, 45-year-old Heinze has already managed five different clubs.

The defender, who Sir Alex Ferguson once labelled as a ‘warrior’ during his time playing for Manchester United, was most recently in charge of Newell’s Old Boys for 50 games.

And before that, Heinze had also briefly managed Atlanta in the MLS along with three other Argentinian sides.

It would certainly be an interesting appointment to Arteta’s coaching staff at Arsenal if it ever transpired, a former player who worked with some brilliant managers during his career.

That all being said, Arsenal are now being linked with a midfielder who’s been compared to Declan Rice.
