However, it seems that the Black Cats could lose a future star. Chris Rigg recently broke into the starting XI in 2024 and has shown plenty of promise.

This has now attracted plenty of interest. Journalist James Copley is reporting that his reputation has caught the attention of most top-end Premier League clubs.

The next Sunderland manager is yet to be decided. Since the sacking of Michael Beale in February, Mike Dodds has been placed in temporary charge until the summer.

With the campaign now coming to a close, all eyes are on who the owners will appoint.

Sunderland are set to host Millwall on Saturday in one of the final matches of the season.

Dodds has been able to put the Black Cats on a decent run of form late, only losing one of their last six. They now face a Millwall side that has flirted with relegation recently but looks all but safe going into the final three games.

Ahead of the tie, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton believes that Millwall will confirm their Championship status with a win on the weekend.
