Mikel Arteta shares whether Jurrien Timber will play v Tottenham; he scored a wonder goal for the U21s tonight

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber enjoyed the perfect comeback from injury tonight as he netted a stunner just eight minutes into things at Blackburn tonight.

Timber has been out with a near season ending injury and Arsenal fans have felt all season that his absence has been felt by the team.

However, Timber is now close to what looks like a full return and after playing for the 21s tonight and scoring a stunner, Mikel Arteta will be keen to see how he responds tomorrow.

The Gunners take on Chelsea this week and then face Tottenham at the weekend.

Of course, the Chelsea game will come too soon for Timber.

But with Tottenham further away, there is hope among some Arsenal fans that Timber might get the nod to feature against Spurs.

Mikel Arteta on if Jurrien Timber will play for Arsenal v Tottenham

Speaking in his press conference about Timber prior to his wonder goal tonight, Arteta suggested there is a chance Timber gets involved v Spurs.

“That’s a quick step. Let’s see how he feels today. He’s been training really good. He looks ready. He needs that exposure and after that, we’ll assess whether that game comes at the right time or too fast. We’ll try to get him with us for the final games,” Arteta said.

Morale boost for a big game

There’s no doubt that having Jurrien Timber back will feel like a boost and a new signing for Arsenal.

The big question for Arteta and his staff is if the defender can last the distance.

Coming from being out for so long to then playing in the 21s once, to then facing Tottenham in a huge North London derby, is a different beast entirely.

In the end, it might come too quick.

But for Arsenal fans, seeing Jurrien Timber back tonight will be a good feeling.
