Report: Crystal Palace now preparing bid for £8m gem who wins more tackles than Jefferson Lerma

Crystal Palace are eyeing up a summer move for a new midfielder, now a potential incoming bid has been reported.

For Oliver Glasner and Dougie Freedman, this summer is going to be very important in building upon the success we are now seeing at Selhurst Park.

While Glasner has got things going well now with back-to-back wins in games which previously may have looked tricky – although five tough games remain.

But that being said, it absolutely can not mean we neglect to strengthen this summer as it is as vital as ever. So hearing news of a potential bid for one target is exciting.

Here’s what we’ve heard…

Crystal Palace set to bid for Raphael Onyedika

As we approach May, transfer rumours are beginning to heat up and we can expect the focus to be narrowed as Freedman gets to work.

Just the other week, Palace were first linked with making a move for Club Brugge’s midfielder Raphael Onyedika. In this link, we got excited by the prospect of him arriving due to his likeness to Paul Pogba.

Now it seems the deal may have taken a next step with Africa Foot United reporting that the Eagles are preparing a bid to take Onyedika to Copers Cope.

A bid in the region of £8m is expected to be enough to tempt Brugge into selling their Nigerian midfielder.

Onyedika would be a great addition to the midfield department at Selhurst Park, but he might be better than one player at a key thing.

Onyedika wins more tackles than Jefferson Lerma

Signing a player like Onyedika would give Palace a bit of a selection headache, with Jefferson Lerma, Cheick Doucoure and Adam Wharton already options.

But given Lerma’s most recent form at centre-half, he might’ve found a new position. Besides, Onyedika wins more tackles per 90 than Lerma.

Here is how the two compare…

From this, we can see both are pretty similar, although arguably, Onyedika just about edges it with his stats taken in the Conference League so probably a slightly poorer quality.

Onyedika for the price quoted would be a solid pick-up and it’s hard to find a reason why he shouldn’t be recruited to replace Will Hughes in midfield.
