'Normally I don't...': West Brom boss did something peculiar in his pre-Sheffield Wednesday presser

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan did something peculiar in his pre-Sheffield Wednesday press conference this week.

West Brom are gearing up to face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough this weekend.

And all the momentum is with the Owls right now.

They won 3-1 at Blackburn Rovers last time out to pull themselves out of the bottom three, whilst West Brom have lost their last two now.

Danny Rohl‘s side desperately need a win to keep their survival hopes alive, with the Owls not mathematically able to secure their safety until the final day of the season with Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town playing each other this weekend.

West Brom on the other hand need a win to keep their top six hopes intact.

Rohl took charge of Sheffield Wednesday in October last year.

He’s now overseen 36 games and has 14 wins to his name; Sheffield Wednesday were without a win after their opening 13 games of this season.

Rohl now has more wins to his name than his predecessor Xisco Munoz had games in charge.

The Owls were completely written off after the opening few weeks of the season but now, they’re on a run, and looking to build on their most recent win at Ewood Park.

What has Carlos Corberan said about Danny Rohl

Express & Star revealed that Corberan entered his Sheffield Wednesday presser this week with a piece of paper in his hand.

On the piece of paper was two graphs; one showing the form table from the last 25 games in the Championship, and the other showing the form table since Rohl took charge of the Owls.

Corberan said:

“I bring this, which normally I don’t. It was what I showed to my team today. Everyone in football sees the table. Look, they are down and you are up. The people think that there is this distance.

“In the last 25 games, which is more than half of the league, we are in the position seventh. They are in position eighth. Sheffield in that time have achieved 37 points. More than Hull City, or Middlesbrough, or Preston.

“They have achieved 37, we have achieved 40. Only three points difference in the last 25 games. You are going to play against this team.

“We aren’t playing against the Sheffield from the beginning, who couldn’t achieve results – we are playing a team that are with us, fighting to survive. We are fighting to achieve a play-off position. The game is going to be a very, very challenging and demanding game.”

What will Danny Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday be thinking right now

Everyone knows the stats about Sheffield Wednesday under Rohl.

And it’s baffling how they’re still in such a lowly position given the amount of points they’ve racked up, though it goes to show just how awful they were earlier in the season.

West Brom beat Wednesday 1-0 in October in what proved to Munoz’s final game right now.

Rohl hasn’t yet faced Corberan who is a very tactical boss himself, so we should see a lot of key battles and a very tactical game of football on Saturday.

There’s plenty at stake for both teams and Corberan’s comments and statistics prove that it’ll be a very tight game, with Sheffield Wednesday more than capable of winning.

Kick off is at 3pm on Saturday.
