'Strange': Darren Bent left puzzled after what he has seen at Nottingham Forest

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has now taken aim at the ‘strange’ news which he has heard coming out of Nottingham Forest this week.

A difficult campaign for the Reds has been tarred by a number of refereeing decisions which have not gone their way.

Frustration at the City Ground has been made apparent throughout the campaign with the club making their anger publicly known.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is now expected to take legal action if Nuno Espirito Santo‘s men are to go down this season.

Knowing Luton Town had secured a point on Friday night, Forest were well aware of what needed to be done today against Sheffield United.

And Nuno’s side did exactly what was needed of them at Bramall Lane to take them three points clear of the Hatters with two games remaining.

But what has gone on off the pitch is what has left Bent baffled after what has unfolded in the last few days at the City Ground.

Darren Bent left puzzled by what Nottingham Forest have done

Three points against Chris Wilder’s side is just what Forest needed to ease the nerves after seeing Luton pick up a point last night.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ryan Yates provided the goals earlier today with Forest taking a major step closer to securing their Premier League survival.

What lies ahead in the remaining two games will decide what awaits Forest ahead of what could be a busy summer off the pitch.

With the owner threatening legal action against the PGMOL if Forest do go down, there could be a really messy couple of months in waiting.

However, today’s result has put to bed some of the VAR talk for now with Forest now going into their final two games knowing one more win will realistically be enough to keep them up.

Speaking on TalkSPORT on Friday, the former Premier League striker has been speaking about the whole situation surrounding Clattenburg at Forest.

“It felt a little bit… I couldn’t quite understand why. Also, I don’t understand what difference he could have made anyway. You are going to get a decision or not. I just find it a bit strange, but again, I don’t think it has worked out very, very well,” he said.

“I don’t know what they were hoping to gain from that appointment anyway because it is not, like, all of a sudden having a referee there was going to make any difference to the decisions. Him being there or not being there wouldn’t have had any effect on them getting better results against Everton.”

Mark Clattenburg appointment was nothing short of a disaster from Forest

Regardless of the intentions from Forest, hiring Clattenburg has left them with real egg on their face.

It has now been claimed that the appointment may even have angered PGMOL with the club having seen a number of dreadful decisions go against them since.

The appointment saw a number of pundits slam the actions of Forest following the Everton debacle with Gary Neville calling for the former referee to resign from his post.

“The reason I asked him to resign is because if he actually saw that Luton tweet, he actually has to distance himself from it or be part of it. If he’s part of that I’m like wow,” the Sky Sports man said.
