Report: New twist emerges at Crystal Palace regarding Dougie Freedman, bad news

A new twist has emerged regarding Dougie Freedman – and it is bad news for Crystal Palace.

After the Glaswegian proved his eye for a bargain with moves for Ebere Eze, Michael Olise, Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton and Daniel Munoz – to name just a handful – Manchester United and Newcastle have shown interest.

The threat from the Red Devils appeared to be over after Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox were plucked from Newcastle and Southampton respectively.

However, the Premier League food chain reared its ugly head, as Newcastle then pursued Freedman to replace Ashworth.

A story from Alan Nixon of The Sun calmed fans down by claiming that Crystal Palace‘s transfer guru was in no rush to leave Selhurst Park.

Now – however – a fresh twist has emerged regarding Dougie Freedman

Bad news emerges for Crystal Palace fans about Dougie Freedman

A story from the Telegraph now claims that Freedman is very keen to fill the Director of Football vacancy at Newcastle – and the Scot has impressed during an interview with the Magpies.

It is said that the 49-year-old blew the Newcastle hierarchy away with his “straight talking” approach, and left a lasting impression with his “ambitious vision” regarding recruitment at St James’ Park.

The Telegraph add that Freedman could still miss out on the job to Johannes Spors, as the German also impressed during an interview, and boasts more experience in the European market.

Previously, the 41-year-old has shone in German football working alongside Ralf Rangnick at RB Leipzig.

Question marks about commitment

Despite that glimmer of hope for Crystal Palace fans regarding Spors, the fact Freedman even travelled for an interview would suggest he is more than ready to leave Crystal Palace, and is no longer 100% committed to the Eagles.

That is sure to disrupt our transfer plans, as the Scotsman may potentially be withholding from diving head first into recruitment with Oliver Glasner, in case he wants to bring those same players to Newcastle.

Of course, Freedman would have a much larger budget on Tyneside under a Saudi Arabian regime, although there is no escaping the fact this is incredibly disappointing news.

The man who scored 85 goals for Crystal Palace in his playing days has already walked out on us before when things were going well, bizarrely leaving for Bolton as we sat top of the Championship in 2012.

Now, just as we begin another upwards curve under Glasner, history could repeat itself.
