Ange Postecoglou says £25m Tottenham player really stood out to him in his first term as manager

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou said one Spurs player really impressed him on Sunday against Sheffield United.

It proved to be a fairly comfortable afternoon at Bramall Lane for Tottenham where they needed just a point to secure Europa League football.

Ange Postecoglou‘s first campaign at the helm of the Lilywhites has provided something Antonio Conte was unable to last time out.

Despite a poor run of form which saw Spurs win just two of their final seven games, Tottenham were able to put in back-to-back impressive displays to cap off the season.

Goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro secured the win for Spurs as they finished just two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

And in the wake of the game, the Australian manager admitted he was impressed by one of his players who has endured some struggles over the 2023/24 campaign.

Ange Postecoglou hails Tottenham player who’s struggled this season

There have been a number of impressive individual displays from Tottenham this season with the likes of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero both proving their worth.

However, there have also been a handful of players who have struggled to hit their usual high standards.

Yves Bissouma is one of them but the Mali midfielder’s season has been cut short through injury.

Another player who has endured a fairly underwhelming campaign is the £25m Swedish winger, Kulusevski.

Over recent weeks, Postecoglou has tested the 24-year-old in a false nine-role and it certainly paid off on Sunday against the Blades.

“I thought Deki was good. He’s worked awfully hard this year without a lot of reward in the front third,” Postecoglou said after Sunday’s win.

“We thought playing him through middle today would help us with his mobility and ability to run in behind. He did well. He always works hard but it’s that sort of final third where we need him to get rewards and he got them today so he did well.”

What Dejan Kulusevski said about Ange Postecoglou’s recent comments

Last week say Postecoglou provide some very honest claims on the Lilywhites after their defeat to Manchester City.

And Kulusevski provided his thoughts on his manager’s bold comments prior to the game against the Blades.

“Every good thing in life takes time, nothing is going to happen overnight, nothing is going to happen in one season,” the Swede told The Mirror.

It has been a turbulent campaign for Spurs whose form has proven inconsistent, but he has admitted being dropped did make him lose momentum in recent weeks.

“Like with the team, there have been very good performances when I have created memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life,” he added.

“And then there was this last month, a couple of games where I wasn’t playing, I lost my rhythm a little bit, but that’s football. I know that I did everything I could this year so I just look forward.”
