Ange Postecoglou admits he’s looking to put something right when Tottenham play Newcastle in Australia

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now admitted he’s looking to right a few wrongs on Wednesday against Newcastle United.

Despite just ending their Premier League campaign on Sunday against Sheffield United, the Tottenham players now find themselves in Melbourne, Australia.

Ange Postecoglou has been able to guide his side to Europa League qualification in his first term at the helm with just two points separating Spurs and fourth-placed Aston Villa.

It has been a year of adaptation for Spurs when it comes to both the players and the manager as they get used to their new ways of working.

And the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been a much happier place on the whole this season following the Australian’s appointment by Daniel Levy.

However, going into the game against Eddie Howe’s side on Wednesday, Postecoglou has now admitted there is something specific he is looking to put right.

Ange Postecoglou carries dreadful record which he wants to improve

Over the last couple years, Postecoglou has returned to his homeland with Celtic in each summer to play in pre-season friendlies.

But the 58-year-old has struggled in getting the results upon his return to his homeland in these games.

In the summer of 2022, Celtic lost to Sydney FC and then drew against Everton in the Sydney Super Cup.

In his first-ever game as the Tottenham manager, Spurs lost to West Ham in a friendly held in Perth during the start of their Asia-Pacific tour.

Wednesday will provide him with the opportunity to get a win on the board in front of his hometown crowd in Melbourne.

And that is something he has told Sky Sports he is keen to put right when Spurs take on their Premier League rivals, Newcastle.

“I’m sure there’ll be goals tomorrow night. I have the worst record in the world in friendly games,” he said.

“I don’t think I’ve won any here in Australia over the last three years, I want to put that right. So hopefully that starts tomorrow night.”

What Ange Postecoglou said about Newcastle United

Spurs will be coming up against a side they are all too familiar with having endured mixed results against the Toon this season.

In the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs cruised to a 4-1 victory. However, they were torn apart again on Tyneside just last month.

And Postecoglou is well aware of the challenge which Newcastle have provided Spurs over recent years.

“We’ve had two cracking games. At our place, we played really well that day and then we got absolutely smashed up in Newcastle,” he said.

“Look, Eddie’s done a great job. It’s another massive club, a real passionate supporter base and obviously it’s changed a bit over the last couple of years with the ownership and the kind of footballers they’ve got up there. They were in the Champions League this year which I think has made it really difficult for them with the squad they had.”
