Tottenham now showing interest in Premier League striker Jermain Defoe called ‘brilliant’

Tottenham Hotspur are now showing an interest in a Premier League striker as their potential Richarlison upgrade.

The Premier League campaign is now wrapped up for another season with Ange Postecoglou seeing his first term end in a fifth-placed finish.

But Europa League football will not be enough to satisfy the Australian at Tottenham with the 58-year-old having much loftier ambitions.

Changes to the squad has been promised already by Postecoglou and The Spurs News understand that a new striker is on the radar.

There is the question of whether Spurs will be able to move Richarlison on this summer with believed interest coming from Saudi Arabia.

A deal to offload the Brazilian could then see Spurs push forward their search for a striker with a Premier League talisman currently catching their eye.

Tottenham eyeing Premier League striker this summer

It seems Tottenham are going into the summer with a number of potential options at striker on their radar.

The Spurs News understands that Tottenham also have a very close eye on the Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

Although Spurs may have been able to return an impressive 74 league goals under Postecoglou, it is apparent there is still a massive hole that has been left up top by Harry Kane.

And that could now see them make a move for a player who has now racked up several years of Premier League experience under his belt.

According to TalkSPORT, Spurs are now showing an interest in the Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

The Englishman impressed on the south coast under Andoni Iraola having provided a return of 19 goals in the Premier League.

Solanke is a player who has received a lot of praise from those around the game with Jermain Defoe and Thierry Henry having labelled him “brilliant“.

However, his improved form is now expected to see the Cherries demand a hefty fee if they are to allow him to move on this summer.

Would Dominic Solanke be an improvement on Richarlison?

The 26-year-old finally looks to have found his feet at Bournemouth with a seriously impressive 2023/24 campaign.

Solanke played a big role in Bournemouth being able to finish in 12 spot as they defied the expectations of many this term.

And here is how his campaign stacked up against Richarlison’s.

Aspects of Solanke’s game have certainly been sharper than Richarlison’s this season and one of those was definitely his ability to remain fit.

Had the Brazilian done that then perhaps he could have surpassed Solanke’s goal tally.

However, one of the main concerns there may well be about Solanke is that this was the first season where he has been able to score more than six goals in a Premier League campaign.
