Ange Postecoglou shares fresh update on whether Tottenham will sign Timo Werner this summer

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now issued an update on whether Timo Werner will be signed this summer.

The transfer window is now just weeks away from opening but Tottenham have until 14 June to make their decision on Timo Werner.

It is believed Spurs hold an option in the German’s loan deal to make his stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium permanent for a fee of £15m.

However, the 28-year-old has suffered a season-ending injury towards the back end of the 2023/24 campaign which hindered his opportunities to show Spurs what he can do.

With Ange Postecoglou admitting he is looking to sign more attacking players this summer, the Australian has now spoken on what might happen with Werner.

What Ange Postecoglou said about Timo Werner’s Spurs future

The former Chelsea forward arrived at Hotspur Way in January and was thrown straight into the starting XI.

Heung-min Son‘s absence for the Asian Cup worked in the German’s favour and then the injury to Richarlison helped him pick up regular game time.

However, Werner then suffered his own issue which kept him out for the games following the North London Derby.

With just a few months worth of action under his belt, Postecoglou is now left with a decision to make ahead of next season over the forward.

Speaking in the wake of the friendly in Melbourne, Australia, Postecoglou provided his latest update on what will happen with Werner.

“From our perspective, there’s a deadline there. But a lot of that will depend on negotiations between the clubs and how Timo feels,” he told ESPN.

“From my perspective, I’m comfortable with that situation.”

Ange Postecoglou does not sound overly enthused in singing Timo Werner

It has to be said these comments from Postecoglou do not exactly make Werner sound like their main priority going into the summer.

At a fee of £15m, Spurs would be getting a lot of experience for that type of money, however, there have been some issues with the German in north London.

Despite only making 13 appearances in the Premier League, Werner was able to miss five big chances to score.

The 28-year-old did offer two goals and three assists during his time with Spurs, but it was clear he left a lot of goals out there.

With Brennan Johnson suffering from a similar issue, Postecoglou may feel Spurs require a more clinical forward to bolster their front line this summer.
