Heung-min Son issues desperate plea to journalists after Tottenham’s friendly v Newcastle in Australia

Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son issued a desperate plea to the journalists who attended the friendly in Melbourne, Australia.

The Lilywhites marked the end of their 2023/24 campaign under Ange Postecoglou with a friendly against Newcastle United on the other side of the world.

A summer break awaits some of the Tottenham players and international duty awaits others with the players set to land back in London on Thursday afternoon.

It has been a bit of a whirlwind past few days for the Spurs players who were whisked away following their victory against Sheffield United on Sunday.

Hotspur Way promises to be just as busy over the coming weeks with Postecoglou promising change to arrive during the summer transfer window.

And it was apparent Heung-min Son had his own request for the media after what had been a hectic few days for the Spurs players.

Heung-min Son has media demand after Melbourne friendly

To say the last few days have been hectic for the Tottenham squad is probably the understatement of the century.

A result at Bramall Lane was essential for Spurs to secure themselves Europa League football after their recent poor form.

And there was no time to celebrate their European qualification as they jetted off on a 24-hour flight to spend around 24 hours in Australia before then setting off on the return to London.

It’s a move which has been slammed by some in the media with the players’ welfare questioned.

After the game, the players and staff did not have too much time before they had to leave the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the airport.

And it was apparent Son was ready to switch off for the summer having endured a gruelling couple of days of media duty since landing Down Under.

“Can I please go today? I always stop [for the media] and I had a press conference yesterday [Tuesday]. Please let me go, let me have a holiday,” the South Korean jokingly said as he waved his way out of the building.

Heung-min Son deserves every minute of rest this summer

After losing Harry Kane last summer, a lot of responsibility was put on the Spurs captain to help bridge the hole left by the Englishman in front of goal.

And Son has certainly provided that for the majority of the campaign having returned 17 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League.

It was a dramatic improvement on his 2022/23 return under Antonio Conte but he did look slightly fatigued during the run-in.

Postecoglou has already admitted he is looking for attacking reinforcements this summer and that should benefit Son going into the new campaign.
