Report: Lopetegui's first signing as West Ham manager likely to be 27-yo PL star for £45 million

Julen Lopetegui’s first signing as West Ham manager is likely to be a blockbuster deal for £45 million star.

West Ham officially announced Julen Lopetegui as the new manager this afternoon, and Tim Steidten explained just how excited he is to work with the Spaniard.

However, Lopetegui’s Hammers reign has got off to the worst possible start, with the news that Lucas Paqueta has been officially charged by the FA.

The Brazilian obviously hasn’t been found guilty yet, but even still, these are anxious times for the West Ham fans, Paqueta himself, and Lopetegui of course.

So with that in mind, we’re in much need of some good news, and that could well come in the form of a top-class new signing.

Judging by the latest report, this is a link that should get the Hammers fans really excited…

One area at the London Stadium where the Spaniard definitely has to strengthen is his central defensive department.

And the former Wolves boss is set to turn to a very familiar face indeed…

According to a report from the Sun, West Ham are set to rekindle our interest in Wolves centre-back Max Kilman, now that Lopetegui has officially been announced as our new manager.

Wolves could demand as much as £45 million for the 27-year-old defender according to the Sun.

What a signing Kilman would be for the Hammers, if we manage to get a deal for the Wolves man over the line.

The towering centre-back has been linked with us for quite some time now, and it was claimed a couple of weeks ago that he is Lopetegui’s number one transfer target.

That doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

In 37 Premier League appearances for Wolves this season, the 27-year-old averaged 1.3 tackles, one interception, 4.8 clearances and 2.6 successful aerial duels.

He made 60.3 passes per game and recorded a completion rate of 86% (Who Scored).

Max Kilman would be a terrific addition for the Hammers in the summer transfer window, there are no two ways about that.

And if he is Julen Lopetegui’s first West Ham signing, I think we’ll be in a much stronger position defensively.
