Club now sign direct replacement for £10m Arsenal target as reports claim Mikel Arteta is considering bid

Arsenal may now have an open route towards signing a transfer target following developments in Italy.

Despite the ease of completing deals on FIFA, Football Manager and other popular games, the real world is nothing alike when it comes to football recruitment.

Players must explore the area, research properties, potentially learn a new language, and also have to possibly relocate families – and it may sometimes all fall apart regardless if the selling club fail to find a replacement.

In regards to that latter point, Arsenal have just received a boost…

Arsenal could now have golden chance to sign Wojciech Szczesny

A story by the Evening Standard recently claimed that Arsenal are thinking about bringing Wojciech Szczesny back to the Emirates Stadium – amid doubts over the future of Aaron Ramsdale.

The Poland international still classifies as a homegrown player in the Premier League after emerging from Hale End in 2009 – making him an attractive option for Mikel Arteta.

Szczesny remains a key man at Juventus, keeping 15 clean sheets in 35 Serie A appearances throughout the 2023/24 campaign.

However, the Pole’s contract expires in 12 months, and now – according to Fabrizio Romano – Juventus have sealed the €20m (£17m) signing of another goalkeeper in Michele Di Gregorio.

Thiago Motta has approved the deal, and the Italian looks set to replace Szczesny as No.1 in Turin.

Therefore, the Warszawa-born glovesman seems likely to depart, especially as this summer represents the last chance Juventus have to recoup some, or all, of the £10m spent to sign him from Arsenal back in 2017.

Deal makes a lot of sense

Due to Szczesny’s contract situation and the fact Di Gregorio has now been signed, we doubt Juventus will play hardball over any approach from Arsenal.

Therefore, this could be quite a straightforward deal for Edu to complete, one that would also make a lot of sense given the 34-year-old’s familiarity with life at Arsenal, and also the fact he still boasts a lot of quality.

As aforesaid, Szczesny has kept 15 clean sheets in 35 league outings this season – conceding just 30 goals – which is a fine record.

Amid talk of Newcastle eyeing a £30m deal for Ramsdale, the Gunners could even end up being £20m in profit if Juventus do entertain a sale in the region of £10m – be sure to keep an eye on this situation.
