Tottenham Hotspur vice-captain Cristian Romero has now provided an honest verdict on his future in north London ahead of the summer transfer window.

The summer window has not even opened yet and already there seems to be an awful lot going on around Tottenham.

The Australian has now had 12 months to assess his options at Hotspur Way with a number of unwanted players like Eric Dier having already been moved on.

What Cristian Romero said about his future at Tottenham

Despite the clubs struggles to keep a clean sheet over the second half of the campaign, Romero remained consistently brilliant under Postecoglou.

Having been handed the vice-captaincy, the Argentine looks to have transformed his disciplinary record with just six yellow cards picked up over the entire season.

The Spurs News even named him the Player of the Season in the 2023/24 end-of-season awards.

Having formed an immense partnership withMicky van de Ven, Spurs look to have one of the best centre-back duos across Europe.

However, speaking to Argentine media, Romero has admitted he is keen to remain at Tottenham for now despite receiving interest from elsewhere.

“The truth is that I’m fine but for now I’m not thinking about that [transfer], I’m thinking about preparing myself these days to get to the national team in the best way possible, which is the next step I have,” Romero said.

“The things that come up at the moment are obviously always analysed but I’m not thinking about the future, I’m thinking about the national team. Now that I have the Copa America, I will always try to take the national team to the top and then we will see what happens.”

How long does Cristian Romero have left on his Tottenham contract?

Having permanently signed after an initial season-long loan in the summer of 2022, Romero now has three years remaining on his deal.

The Argentine has insisted he is not currently considering his future away from north London, however, next season could provide an interesting one for Spurs.

Romero will then have two years remaining on his deal at Tottenham and depending on how well Spurs perform under Postecoglou, it may provide the Argentine – who’ll then be 27-years-old – with a decision to make.

Having watched the centre-back at Spurs for a number of seasons now, many Spurs fans will be aware of just how good Romero is by now.

He is of immense value to Spurs and a player who Postecoglou will surely want to keep around for the long-term having seen just how influential he after just one year at Spurs.
