'That's some statement': Gary Neville shocked after what Wayne Rooney has said about Harry Kane

Gary Neville has now been surprised by a claim Wayne Rooney has just made about former Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Ahead of the Euro’s it’s pretty undisputed that Kane will once again be leading the line for his country, buoyed by another fantastic season of scoring at Bayern Munich.

Tottenham fans will be hoping that James Maddison will get the chance to play alongside Kane, a partnership that once looked to have so much promise in north London.

Maddison is perhaps most likely to start the tournament on the bench, partly because of his fairly quiet end to the season at Spurs.

But there’s no reason to believe that the Tottenham maverick can’t have an impact, with his skill-set well suited to changing a game from the sidelines.

All that being said, ahead of the Euros, Rooney has been speaking about England, and in particular their captain, Kane.

Rooney was speaking with Neville on The Overlap, and made a pretty big claim regarding Kane’s England legacy.

Wayne Rooney believes Harry Kane is England’s greatest player of all time

Having surpassed his goal-scoring record for England, Rooney shared his belief that Kane was the greatest England player of all time.

Neville was shocked by the statement, not necessarily because he disagreed, rather it is just a big claim considering Kane hasn’t won the honours to necessarily surpass those from 1966.

Either way, Rooney said: “I think he is incredible. I think the goals he has scored. The assists he has added over the last few years as well. For me I would say he is England’s greatest ever player.

Neville replied: “That’s some statement from you.”

Rooney: “I believe that. You were talking about Jude before with his work rate, with Harry there is never an issue.

“He is the ultimate professional. He never misses a game. And that’s a common theme you would see with these players like Kane, Bellingham, Foden.

“I would put money on it, they would never miss training sessions or a game.”

Of course, 30-year-old Kane will have two or three more chances to win a trophy with England, something that would make Rooney’s claim pretty undisputed.

Kane is currently on 62 goals for England, with Rooney scoring 53 before he retired and Sir Bobby Charlton netting 49.

All that being said, Tottenham could actually have some difficulty selling a different English talent this summer.
