Dougie Freedman now in talks to lure £3m star to Crystal Palace, Oliver Glasner has asked for him - Fabrizio Romano

Crystal Palace are now in talks to bring another superb Championship talent to Selhurst Park, following Adam Wharton’s footsteps.

Dougie Freedman has a talent for plucking the very best Championship talents out of second-division and straight into the Crystal Palace squad.

He’s done it time and time again, with Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and finally and most recently Adam Wharton all coming straight from the Championship to being superstars in the Premier League.

After taking over the Palace role from Roy Hodgson, Oliver Glasner will undoubtedly have been keen for Freedman to work the magic for him as well and now it looks like he might be about to do that.

Recent reports have suggested that the Eagles are now in talks to sign one player that Glasner really wants.

Crystal Palace pursuing Jobe Bellingham as a priority this summer

The next player to be targeted from the Championship by Palace has now been revealed and it comes in the form of Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham.

According to an exclusive by Fabrizio Romano, Palace see Bellingham as a priority target this summer with the brother of Champions League finalist Jude coming off a strong campaign with a struggling Sunderland.

Glasner is said to want Bellingham this summer by Romano who adds that Freedman is currently working hard to convince the 18-year-old to move to Selhurst Park.

If Palace are to manage to sign Bellingham, they’ll have to beat other clubs to his signature with Brentford mentioned as one club who are keen.

Premier League interest comes just a year after Sunderland spent just £3m on him, and now they stand to multiply their investment.

Where would Jobe Bellingham fit in at Selhurst Park?

It’s a little shock to see Freedman picking out Bellingham as the next big thing in the Championship, given the high profile status that the teenager has due to his brother.

But in his first season at Sunderland, while playing as a number 10, Bellingham scored seven and assisted one in 45 games as he became a regular starter, despite the Black Cats’ turbulent campaign.’

Bellingham can play as an eight, 10 or even up front, but once matured, his future will likely lie in midfield.

For Palace, Bellingham would therefore likely short term be a squad player, rotating in the two number 10 positions with Olise and Eze. Or even featuring further back alongside Wharton or Cheick Doucoure.

The teenager would be a long-term project for Glasner but has all the potential in the world to become a star for the Eagles.
