Tottenham have a number of young players who it’s easy to get excited about at the moment.
The likes of Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore have been tipped to have big futures at Spurs.
However, before any of these young players made a name for themselves, Dane Scarlett was seen as the brightest young talent at Spurs.
Unfortunately, after a few difficult loan spells, Scarlett’s stock has fallen slightly at Tottenham, but according to Josh Hughes, speaking on The Spurs Chat Podcast, Tottenham do still like Scarlett as a player.
Tottenham still like Dane Scarlett
Hughes spoke about the striker and how Spurs view him.
“Dane Scarlett again, it seems like he is still liked, but I would’ve expected if he was that good he’d be in direct competition with Richarlison,” Hughes said.
“Parrott could command a smallish fee, there is that. Dane Scarlett didn’t have a good loan at Portsmouth and he didn’t get any gametime at Ipswich. He hasn’t broken through, it feels like he’s been 18 forever. It feels like a lifetime, but they’re still young.
Scarlett is still young
Tottenham still rate Scarlett, and we mustn’t forget that this is a player who still has a high ceiling.
Scarlett is only 20 years old, and he shouldn’t be written off as of yet.
Let’s not forget, Harry Kane was in a similar situation at the same sort of age, and it only took an opportunity in the first-team to ignite his career.
Of course, Kane’s trajectory was an exception rather than the rule, but at the age of 20, it’s way too early to write Scarlett off, especially as he was so highly-rated as a teenager under Jose Mourinho.
With the right coaching and the right opportunities, Scarlett could still be someone who turns into a star at Tottenham.
