Tottenham now considering resigning ‘terrific’ player who wants to play under Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur are now monitoring one of their former players ahead of the summer as a potential option to bolster their attack.

The summer transfer window is not even open yet and Tottenham have already completed their first deal of to bring Timo Werner back on loan for the new campaign.

Ange Postecoglou is looking for Daniel Levy to bring in a number of new forwards this summer to bolster his options going into a European campaign.

Quality squad depth is going to be massive for Tottenham if they are going to compete on all fronts next season.

And for Postecoglou, players like Werner could play an important role in providing solid options to rotate with Heung-min Son in some of the lesser fixtures.

It now seems as if Spurs could be looking to a player they sold five years ago now as a possible option to add to their attack.

Tottenham eyeing return for ‘terrific’ former attacker

With Harry Kane sold last summer, Heung-min Son and Richarlison have been the two main sources for goals this season for Postecoglou.

More firepower will be needed going into next season, though, with Richarlison picking up a number of injury issues over the course of the campaign.

Spurs were hit with injuries throughout the campaign which seriously hindered their push for a spot in the top four.

Alongside this, below par seasons for the likes of Dejan Kulusevski may not have been helped by a lack of quality from the bench with Bryan Gil one of the wingers Postecoglou had to look to in the dugout.

According to Alasdair Gold, Spurs are monitoring a potential return for their former player Marcus Edwards who is currently playing for Sporting CP.

The 25-year-old is believed to be interested in a possible reunion at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a move back to England on his mind.

Spurs are said one of several Premier League clubs considering a move for Edwards this summer with Crystal Palace credited in the report.

Tottenham clause which gives them a big Marcus Edwards advantage

After selling Edwards in 2019 to Portuguese side Vitoria, Spurs had a sell-on clause which was then passed on to his contract with Sporting.

When Pedro Porro then signed for Spurs last January, the 50% sell-on clause was then reduced down to 35% with Sporting currently believed to value the player at around £15m.

Therefore, if Spurs are to make a move for Edwards this summer, it could see him return for under £10m due to their discount on Edwards.

However, there have to be serious questions as to whether Edwards would actually provide the level of quality which Spurs need to progress.

“When he signed for Guimaraes in the first days we saw something there. Then he signed for Sporting and he just became a fantastic player. He’s been terrific,” former Spurs midfielder Pedro Mendes told TNT Sports.

Edwards returned four goals and five assists in the Portuguese top flight last season, so it does have to be questioned whether the value of the deal may outweigh how much of an impact Edwards may have if he was to return.
