Report: Man City will only consider selling £35m player this summer if he asks to leave

Manchester City don’t tend to stand in the way of players that want to leave the club.

The Citizens have been known to cash in on players that have their eyes set on walking away from the Etihad Stadium in previous transfer windows.

Names such as Leroy Sane and Ferran Torres have seen City get a significant amount of money after they decided to join other clubs in recent years.

Now that another summer transfer window is close to opening, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the club’s stance on one of their current stars who has garnered interest from abroad.

A recent report from ESPN had this to say on the matter.

It said: “Ederson has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League (SPL), but City are not actively looking to part with him and offers will only be considered if the Brazil international makes it clear he wants to leave the Etihad Stadium.”

Since joining the club back in 2017 from Benfica in a deal worth £35m, the Brazilian has gone on to make 332 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, keeping 155 clean sheets along the way.

Ederson exit would be a big blow for City

Having played such a prominent role in the team and been such a key figure in their recent successes, Ederson’s potential departure this summer would certainly be a significant blow for the Citizens.

Throughout his latest Premier League campaign with the Blues, the Brazil international saved 56 of the 82 shots he faced, leaving him with a higher save percentage (70.7%) than the likes of David Raya (68.1%), Guglielmo Vicario (67.7%) and Emi Martinez (66.2%) among others.

Now that it has been reported that City would only consider offers for the 30-year-old if he decides he wants to leave the club, as Sane and Torres did, everyone at the club should be hoping that Ederson doesn’t get his head turned and think about leaving this summer.
