Report: West Ham are now trying to sign 36-year-old Premier League winner

West Ham United boss Julen Lopetegui is seemingly plotting a move to bring some real experience into the club this summer.

Julen Lopetegui has so much work to do on the current West Ham squad, and he has around a £90 million budget to work with, not including player sales.

The Spaniard needs to strengthen his Hammers squad in pretty much every single department this summer.

Lopetegui, 57, is allegedly prioritising moves to bolster his central defensive department and the centre-forward position.

With so many players being linked with an exit from the London Stadium this summer, we can expect an extremely busy transfer window.

Bringing in a new centre-back, a proven striker and a rapid winger should be right at the very top of Lopetegui’s agenda.

However, the latest reports are claiming that the Hammers manager is focusing on an entirely different area of the pitch.

The Hammers are believed to be deep in talks to sign Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme.

Meanwhile, Turkish left-back Ferdi Kadioglu is apparently on the West Ham radar as well.

Those two players are under 24, but Lopetegui clearly wants to supplement the youthful signings with some real experience.

West Ham are now looking to sign Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in the summer transfer window, according to a report from The Sun (print edition June 2nd, page 60).

Begovic won the Premier League title with Chelsea in the 2016/17 season, so he obviously has experience of winning big trophies.

The Bosnia international will be available on a free transfer this summer, after his release from QPR.

The 36-year-old has played 451 senior games throughout his lengthy career, and has conceded 581 goals whilst keeping 128 clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).

If Begovic is being signed as our third-choice goalkeeper on a short-term deal for absolutely nothing, I think it would be a fairly smart move from the club.

However, I don’t want to see him playing regularly for West Ham under Julen Lopetegui next season.
