‘He showed’: Tony Cascarino is convinced Mauricio Pochettino signing will become a ‘big asset’ for Chelsea

Tony Cascarino is convinced one Chelsea player is going to become a ‘big asset’ for the club.

Chelsea are set for another busy summer as they prepare for the arrival of Enzo Meresca.

The Leicester City boss is set to replace Mauricio Pochettino and is reportedly already eyeing a move for a new forward.

Indeed, the Blues are said to be keen on Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville, a player Maresca has already labelled ‘very quick’.

Chelsea have also been heavily linked with a move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko in recent days.

But former Blues striker Tony Cascarino is convinced Chelsea already have a forward who could become a huge asset for them.

Cascarino thinks Jackson could score 20 goals per season for Chelsea

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino explained why he believes Jackson could become a prolific goalscorer for the Blues.

“I really hope that Nicolas Jackson really steps on again,” he said. “If you get 20 per cent more out of Nicolas Jackson, you are getting 20 goals plus in the Premier League, if you can get 20 per cent out of him.

“If you go across the whole of last season and say, who had the most chances, what player do you think had the most chances that didn’t convert, he would definitely be in the top three.

“So, his conversion rate, if he gets more clinical, Nicolas Jackson is going to be a big asset for Chelsea because he is really quick, you know. He showed his pace numerous times last year.”

Jackson’s first season at Chelsea in numbers

It’s no secret that Jackson struggled in front of goal in his debut season at Stamford Bridge.

After arriving from Villarreal last summer, we’ve seen the best and worst of the 22-year-old.

Jackson has proven to be a real handful for opposition defences due to his pace and movement.

He ended the campaign with 17 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions but should have had plenty more to his name.

  • 35 Premier League appearances
  • 14 goals
  • 5 assists
  • 0.40 goals per match
  • 80 shots
  • 51% shooting accuracy
  • 24 big chances missed
