'They know': Man United thought they'd get £100m for 'world-class player'; now they feel stuck - journalist

Manchester United are in for a huge summer this year but there are fears that they could well be stuck with one or two big players.

In the first window sinceJim Ratcliffe took over, United are expected to be busy as they get their house in order both on and off the field.

Ratcliffe is making a number of big calls off the pitch but it is on-field where fans will expect to see changes.

New signings will be demanded from the Old Trafford faithful, while some will feel certain players need moving on ASAP.

One of the players under pressure at United right now is Marcus Rashford. The forward has had a torrid season on and off the pitch.

But speaking about Rashford and a potential sale, journalist Dean Jones has explained why United now have a big problem with the forward.

Manchester United know they could be stuck with Marcus Rashford

Speaking to GiveMeSport about United and what they intend to do with Rashford, Jones admitted it’s a tough sell for the club to attract a buyer right now.

“His stock is falling and falling and at some stage he has to figure out how to stop this. It’s been a really low season for him and while Manchester United do not have plans to offload him, I think that is partly due to the fact that they know no club is going to make an offer that is in any way tempting to them,” Jones said.

“Rashford was supposed to be a £100million asset and so was Mason Greenwood. Jadon Sancho and Antony were also expected to become more valuable, but it’s all gone wrong.

“It’s quite sad that Rashford has seen his form drop off in such fashion but he can have absolutely no argument that he deserves to be in the England squad. This is the right decision from Southgate.”

Rashford can fly again with a good summer

In a way, being left out of the England squad might do Marcus Rashford the world of good.

He won’t have the pressure of being involved in Germany, can get a good rest, and use the summer as a time to reset and go again.

Of course, it’s been a disappointing season for Rashford but after winning the FA Cup, it was clear that the club means a hell of a lot to the forward.

If United can get Rashford back ticking along nicely, it will feel like a new signing next season.

And that £100m player with ‘world-class’ potential might just pop up once again.
