Report: What Arsenal are now expected to do regarding their interest in Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United have no plans to sell Bruno Guimaraes this summer, but have entered a period of time in which they are powerless.

That is because clubs now have the opportunity to activate Bruno Guimaraes‘ release clause, giving them a window of opportunity to sign him for £100million.

It is only a small window, however, with the release clause only active until the end of June.

That puts Newcastle United in a position of strength, as they have no plans to negotiate Bruno’s exit from St James’ Park. They are confident about keeping him, although there is always the fear that someone could come in at any time and bid £100million.

One of the clubs who Toon fans fear could do that is Arsenal. They have been heavily linked with the 26-year-old, with Bruno well aware that the Gunners are keen admirers of him.

Arsenal not expected to bid for Bruno Guimaraes

However, a new update from the Athletic suggests that Eddie Howe’s side have nothing to worry about regarding Bruno and Arsenal.

According to the Athletic, Arsenal are not expected to take their interest in Bruno any further. They add that Mikel Arteta’s side admire the midfielder, but that could be as far as it goes.

That is excellent news for Newcastle, as Arsenal also appear to have pulled out of the race to sign Alexander Isak as well. The Athletic also state that the Gunners are not expected to make a move for the striker after his 24-goal season.

That is even less surprising, as there is no way Arsenal could afford Isak. Newcastle would want an offer of nearly £200million to even consider letting him go, and even that might not convince Toon officials.

Who else could move for Bruno Guimaraes

When it comes to Isak, there is nothing to worry about. However, doubts will continue to remain regarding Bruno as long as his release clause is active.

While Arsenal might not plan to make a move, he has other suitors. Manchester City have been fond admirers of Bruno, and there have been concerns that they could make a move now that their plan to sign Lucas Paqueta is in doubt.

Another club that Newcastle must fear is PSG. They are not shy of a few quid, and are looking for their next superstar following Kylian Mbappe’s departure. However, they do have plenty of options in midfield already.

In truth, there is a reason why Newcastle United are so confident about keeping Bruno. Despite all the talk in the media about him leaving, all signs appear to point towards him staying. Hopefully that remains the case until the window slams shut on August 30th.
